Jim Licko and myself are packing our bags for Austin to experience all that South by Southwest Interactive 2012 (SXSWi) has to offer. I am a SXSWi newbie while Jim is returning for his second consecutive immersion into all things digital and social media.
I can already tell that Jim and I are going to be like two kids in a candy store.
To prepare for our social media sojourn we’ve had multiple meetings to plot out sessions and figure out how best to distill the glut of information for our colleagues, peers back in Denver and GroundFloor Media clients. I am really excited that for the first time before any conference, Jim and I actually surveyed our staff and clients to determine what THEY are most interested in—and in turn, are using that for how we prioritize what we attend. We also hope to gather the brightest Denver minds who join us at SXSWi for a post-conference evening panel event in late March or early April.
Through our survey we learned some great tidbits about where our circle of clients and friends are on the social media spectrum. A few highlights we wanted to share before going to Austin include:
- More than 50% of survey participants are fairly knowledgeable to very active on social media
- Nearly 30% said they are trailblazers in the space
- Measurement, crisis and engagement rise to the top as the three topics our clients and coworkers are most interested to hear about after SXSWi
So, what’s next? Jim and I leave Thursday afternoon and our goal is to provide at least two GFM blog updates daily starting on Friday. One post will quickly summarize our top takeaways from the day’s sessions. The second will celebrate SXSWi and Austin outside of the conference centers, with updates on our favorite meals, adult beverages, coolest swag, pictures, hours of sleep, celebrity sightings and more—you won’t want to miss it. We’ll also be tweeting from our personal Twitter handles (@DenverPRGuy and @aanzalone), on Instagram (@GroundFloorPR) and of course, GFM’s Facebook and Twitter feeds.
If you have questions or suggestions for us while we’re in Austin please don’t hesitate to reach out to either one of us.
And before we go, Jim and I also just want to add a tremendous THANK YOU for GroundFloor Media for giving us this amazing opportunity to geek out for a week!
